What is the Du Bois Challenge?

The Du Bois Challenge is part of a celebration of the data visualization legacy of W.E.B Du Bois which attempts to recreate the visualizations from the 1900 Paris Exposition using modern tools. Check out the challenge here.

Who was W.E.B. DuBois?

Born in 1868, William Edward Burghardt Du Bois was an activist, author, and scholar, being the first African-American to receive a doctorate from Harvard University. In addition, his approach to data visualisations was incredibly innovative, both in terms of his stylistic methods and in his use of using visualisations to build data-driven arguments.
